Re: Dune Analytics Annual Subscription Renewal — $250,000
Before this item goes to a vote, I would like to raise an objection to the justification as written.
The Kaia Foundation’s own kaia_wave_dashboard on Dune shows “Updated 7 months ago.” If a flagship dashboard published under the Foundation’s account has not been touched in seven months, what exactly is the $250,000 renewing? Either the data infrastructure is not being actively used, or it is being used in ways that have never been reported back to the Governance Council. Neither case supports approving a quarter of a million dollars on the current description.
The proposal states that Dune “provides blockchain data infrastructure that enables developers, ecosystem participants, institutions, and the Kaia team to query and analyze Kaia’s on-chain activity.” That is a description of what the product is, not evidence of what it has delivered for Kaia. “It is necessary” and “it is helpful” are no longer sufficient grounds for spending Ecosystem Fund capital.
The standard should be this: if a line item cannot be tied to service growth or ecosystem expansion, it should not be funded — no matter how convenient it is to have. Treasury capital is finite. Every dollar spent on infrastructure that merely exists is a dollar not spent on things that compound.
Before I can support this, I would ask the Foundation to disclose:
- Actual usage over the past 12 months — query volume, number of unique users, and how many Kaia dashboards were actively maintained versus left stale. If the answer is “a handful of internal users,” say so.
- Who consumes this data. Which teams, institutions, or partners have used Dune for Kaia specifically, and what decisions or integrations resulted from it?
- Cost per unit of value. $250,000 per year is a significant sum. What is the price of the equivalent alternative — self-hosted indexing, a competing analytics vendor, or a scoped-down Dune tier? If no comparison was done, the renewal was not properly evaluated.
- The value of the new scope. The proposal adds balances and stablecoin datasets plus “dedicated analyst support for selected analytics use cases.” Which use cases? Who requested them? What is the expected output, and who is accountable for producing it?
- What has changed. If the last renewal produced seven months of silence on the Foundation’s own dashboard, what concretely will be different this time?
Without answers to the above, my position is to oppose. I would rather see this budget redirected to work that measurably expands the ecosystem, and revisit analytics tooling when there is a documented, active demand for it.
I am not opposed to data infrastructure in principle. I am opposed to renewing spend on autopilot.

따라서 본 제안을 지지하기 전에, 재단이 아래 내용을 공개해 주길 요청합니다:

지난 12개월간 실제 사용량 — 쿼리 수, 고유 사용자 수, 유지 관리된 Kaia 대시보드 수와 방치된 대시보드 수. “내부 사용자 몇 명이 썼다”가 답이라면 그대로 말해주면 됩니다.
